Thanks to the Show Beagles Yahoo List for the information below about the
federal HSUS bill PUPS which must be vigorously opposed and killed -- once
again. Get ready and be informed! The New Year is on the horizon and
"animal rights" means no animals left. Have you donated to RPOA recently?

Subj: [showbeagle-L] Puppy Uniform Protection and Safety ACT (PUPS)

Variations of PUPS has been considered by Congressional committees for the
last decade or so. Earlier this year, the current version was referred to
the U.S. Senate Agriculture Committee. The website link below has an
excellent summary of the history and status of the bills --along with links
for updates.

The push behind PUPS is to get hobby breeders covered by the USDA
guidelines which would be difficult in the home/kennel set-ups that many of
us have. I think that the current version impacts anyone who breeds 50 or
more
offspring from breeding females in one year. This number seems like alot to
many of us. However, most active dog show people have numerous
co-ownerships and if those litters are included, then 50 doesn't seem so far
away. Also the practice of HSUS and other lobbyists is to set a high number
then later amend and reduce the number.

Thanks to the German Shepard Club - it is a link to their excellent club
website for legislative matters. Also thanks to Maggie Blutreich for
sharing this link with me.
Respectfully Submitted,
